In researching techniques of search engine optimization, I noticed a bit of a Halloween theme. If you are an internet junkie and have waited until the last possible moment to select a Halloween costume, prepare yourself for inspiration.
Ready? Let’s do this:
Spiders– Computer programs that index data from web pages for search engines
Robots – Another term for spiders.
Black hat techniques – SEO strategies that search engines consider cheating
Organic SEO – using Google’s algorithms to improve search results.
Cloaking – a black hat technique that presents different pages to human visitors than it does spiders.
Google Bombing – another black hat technique that uses massively repeated anchor text to influence Google results.
Eyeballs – the number of people that see your site
The rest of these don’t necessarily pertain to search engines, but the internet in general.
Amazon – The popular internet retailer.
Pirating – the sharing of copyrighted materials over the internet
Shopzilla – a price-comparison search engine
Ghosting – an ad posted on Craigslist that never shows up on the front page
Cookie – a piece of information stored on your computer from your internet browser
